What a year of movies, there were films that were better than we expected, films that take it to the next level and only a fair few of them succeeded to be on my APPROVED list! From epic action sequences, in-your-face humour, deep meanings, scary moments, colorful fun, heartfelt moments and big surprises; these films that made it into my Top 10 deserve not only a place in your BluRay/DVD collection but a chance to impress the film goer that hungers for action, horror, laughs or any mood for a great film. Let's take a look now into my TOP 10 FILMS FOR 2014...
Horrible Bosses 2 is just like 22 Jump Street in this case to mean in terms of comedy, story and casting, it stays true to the tone and dark humor that was present in the first film. Most of the time, sequels intend to fail to grasp the strong success that its first film achieved, it could be to casting changes, story and possibly direction but thankfully the producers are back to ensure the sequel is a worthy follow up for the fans. Taking place after the events of the first film, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to go on their shared pathway to success by leaving their employment and starting their own self-made product to make millions! Finding it hard to get a potential investor, they come across Burt and Rex Harrison who seem like their key investors who offer a big investment of units before making the deal. The trio take out a business loan and set up production and manufacturing in no time, but are at the last second left in debt when their potential investor back outs at the deadline. With no choice and no other options, the trio must go back to their crime smarts (if they are smart as a team) and get the debt paid off by a ransom kidnapping of the investor's son! As far as comedy sequels go, this is a strong one to come by alongside 22 Jump Street. The direction by Sean Anders (we're The Millers) is indeed great, giving a fair amount of detail in story, concept and character and allowing the leading cast (particually Bateman, Sudeikis and Day) to have fun its comedic moments whether being a quote or physical gag. The addition of Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz is also a highlight but unfortunately there is a minor flaw within it, being that Waltz's character didn't have as much or none of the comedic moments that his cast members share but his performance is redeemable as he is a great actor at the present moment (watch Django Unchained to prove my point and keep an eye for him in the next James Bond movie). VERDICT: A must watch for fans of the first film and comedies, HB2 is a pure shot of hilarious fun, gross humor and talented casting that overthrows the first one in a few ways! like 22 Jump Street.
